ex Marine and proud of it here. W T F are you talking about?

  2. Stevie Says:

lol… because ‘pornography’ is not allowed in Muslim countries

you can send it… just wrap it in a newspaper and tape the box shut.

  3. Andrew M Says:

Playboys would be completely offensive to the sensibilities of the Muslims in that part of the world. It is their country, and we’re clinging to the hope that a downtick in violence, post-surge, will hold.

I’m not sure how anyone compares Playboy to a coloring book, unless it’s a color by numbers sex book or something.

The marines aren’t judging the coloring books as being useful, per se, they are just willing to accept something that won’t set off a fresh round of riots and violence.

Although, given the riots that broke out over a cartoon strip depicting Mohammed, maybe they should pass on the crayons and coloring books, as well.

Well my good friend after serving a lovely Iraq vacation myself, most desert locations you can’t have pornographic material on your person because its illegal in certain countries. Along with alcohol…nice huh? and I’m sure some Marines do like coloring books. But hey I’m only Air Force what do Iknow right?

The marines give the coloring books to the Iraqi children.

    1) The military doesn’t want to offend the Iraqis we’re trying to help.

    2) Some might, just messing around. The overwhelming majority probably go to Iraqi children. There’s a lot of stuff like that… school supplies, soccer balls, stuffed animals, etc… that get sent over for Iraqi kids.

Marines like coloring books and crayons, too, Erudite.

It’s because pornography is illegal in Iraq. It would be like people from Denmark wanting to mail marijuana over here. It has nothing to do with our government. In places where it’s legal, porn is sold right in the exchange.
Maybe the coloring books and crayons are for the Marines to give to the children they come acroos on patrol. Sort of like the WWII soldeirs who gave out Hershey bars.
